Lions Not Surprised by Eurekas
2024-10-25The Lions had their best game of the year so far.
It hasn't been the best start for the Eurekas. Some early season attendance issues have made for some challenging games, but they had 2 full lines on Thursday night as they took on the Lions.
It was an early goal from the Lions however that opened the scoring. Jamie Richard finishing off a nice pass from Eric Blanchard. Jamie would factor in on the next goal as well when he made a great pass of his own to Robin Gareau in front.
The Eurekas scoring troubles continued as they tried to beat Jamie Wutke in goal for the Lions. Wutke had filled in for the Greyhounds earlier in the week and pitched a clean sheet as the Greyhounds defeated the Tigers 4-0, but as a full in, it won't show in his stats. He was doing his best to get one registered for the Lions though.
The first period ended with the Lions up 2-0 and they looked to add to their lead in the second. As Dustin Hall got the puck on the right wing, Jake Rankin called for the puck at around centre. Hall threw up a no look pass waayyy to far in front of Rankin, but Jake pursued it and got there first. Hall went to the net as Rankin found Jamie Richard alone in the high slot. Jamie shot it low for his second of the game.
Jake Rankin, scored a beauty goal next as he want in alone and cut across the net. Speight have him nothing so Jake's cut across opened him up and then the puck went right through the five hole.
On a delayed penalty call for the Lions, the Eurekas got the extra attacker in the ice and managed to get to the net and put it in, but the net was ajar and for the 4th time this season, the Eurekas had a goal called back. The power play would prove fruitless and just after it expired Jamie Richard completed the hat trick with a beauty shot to the top corner, above the blocker of Ashton Speight.
Then, for the first time in his career, Robin Gareau had himself a two goal game. Jake Rankin spotted him open in the slot and Robin one timed the puck into the net as the Lions went up 6-0.
In the dying seconds of the game, the Eurekas tried to break the shutout. Joey Richard busted his ass to get back and negate a breakaway and Jamie a Wutke recorded his first official shutout of the season as the Lions picked up the 3 points.
The Lions will play the Aurora on Wednesday as the Eurekas will see the Tigers for the second time on Tuesday.
