Eurekas Concede A Touchdown, Still Smiling
2025-01-16Despite the Osprey bringing napalm to the party, the lowly villagers of Eurekasland, manage to keep smiling.
Let's not mince words here, we had a game between two teams at different ends of the spectrum here, and the result was as close to written in advance as possible.
The Osprey were dominant all night, from start to finish, they were the better team and the Eurekas were just hoping to find some sort of offensive opportunity and pounce on it. While they would manage 23 shots on goal, there might have been 3 from a scoring position, and about 8 came about as rebound shots being hammered into the pads of Nick Stryniak, filling in for Matt Baird.
On the other side of the ice was Jamie Wutke, also filling in, but for the injured Ashton Speight. Wutke not only saw a decent number of shots, about half of the 32 he faced were high percentage scoring opportunities. He made some great saves, like denying Matt Ryder's one timer at the side of the net, but he would also pull the puck out from behind himself 7 times.
With Matt Pellerin back in the lineup, he looked refreshed, and he and Ryder were in sync, and Bobby Sacre was right there with them. The three of them combined for 13 points on the night. Matt Ryder would pick up his standard issue hatty, while Sacre would net two goals, Pellerin just had a lowly power play marker, though he did score another which was called off due to the net being off.
The Osprey win has them in first place for the time being, and facing the Lions next week, a team they have defeated twice, while the Eurekas remain stuck on a single regulation win in the league's basement, but still finding ways to have fun.
