Make Up Game… At Last

Ryan DeWolfe leaving it all out there for the Norsemen

Weeks after the rink closed due to inclement weather, the Osprey and Norsemen got their game in.

This game could sort a couple of things out in the standings if the Norsemen were to beat the Osprey again.  But the Osprey still have a chance at first place, so you know they weren't going to just let that happen, and it was the Osprey taking the early lead when Kurt Thibault knocked the puck off a Norsemen stick and right to Matt Ryder.  Ryder shot it five hole for the goal.

The next goal came off the stick of Bobby Sacre.  He rushed the puck up ice and tossed a backhander on goal which fooled Phil Sprague to make it 2-0.

Quickly, the play then moved to the Osprey end and Calum MacKinnon found Ryan DeWolfe alone in front but Matt Baird denied him with a toe save.  Baird would make an identical looking save a few minutes later when Connor Tousignant passed the puck to Stephen Warwick in front.  With 6 minutes to play in the first, that was just the Norsemen's 4th shot on goal.

Keith Webb went to the box and the Norsemen woke up.  They peppered 7 shots on goal during the PP but Matt Baird resisted the barrage with a couple of beauty saves.  The period would end with the Osprey outshooting the Norsemen 18-12, and leading 2-0 where it counts.

It was an error that blew the game wide open.  Dumping the puck in, Nathan Bessey watched his linemates roll their eyes, but Kurt Thibault went after the puck regardless.  Phil Sprague got there first and set it up behind hi net, only the first man there was Thibault.  Kurt passed the puck out front to Bessey and he had a whole empty net to look at.  He slid a backhander which Sprague nearly managed to stop, going just a bit too far.

Keith Webb would score just 20 seconds later after Branden Rankin forced a turnover.  Matt Ryder scored off a far shot on the power-playm and the Steve Power redirected one in to make it 6-0.  In the final minute of play, Norsemen goalie Phil Sprague pulled himself from the net.  It looked like the Osprey would capitalize, but in the end they could not, and the game ended 6-0.

The Osprey continue to hope for a first place finish, but need to win vs the Tigers tomorrow and have the Aurora fall to the Lions in the final game of the season on Thursday.  The Norsemen remain in third and hope that they can stay there win a win over the Greyhounds when they get back on the ice again tonight. By this time tomorrow, we will know a couple of our matchups, but a couple more will remain in the balance.
