Kyle Ervin fails to contain Matt Ryder
Greyhounds vs Aurora
Personnel problems. That’s the excuse the Greyhounds had decided on before they even showed up to the rink Thursday night. Their clear and definite lack of confidence smelled like the nectar of the gods to the salivating Aurora.
Both teams were repping back up goalies for the game, and they came out strong, stopping everything. Well, until Mat McLeod, after having puck possession for about 30 seconds, made his way all the way up ice and fired a shot at the chest of Matt Baird. Baird is going to join a support group with Kyle Weatherbee after the footage comes out showing how he managed to avoid stopping the puck on the play.
The Aurora responded immediately. Matt Ryder won the faceoff at centre right to Bobby Sacre and Ashton Speight suffered a similar fate to Baird as the shot along the ice from distance, went into the back of the net just 8 seconds after the Greyhounds took the lead.
Floodgates were opened and the Greyhounds were no longer these graceful dogs, but more like a one legged puppy, named lil’ brudder. (Come one, someone needs to get the Homestar Runner reference, right?).
Josh Beaudreau sniped one from the point, if you can call a shot that was 40mph and went off a Greyhounds player a snipe. Matt Ryder then decided that he was going to need to get some reps in as he was practicing for East Hants and the Greyhounds were his pylons. That son of a bitch basically started collecting jockstraps. He deked Ashton into the rafters, then he toe dragged Kyle Gouthro so hard as Gouthro slid to make the play, that Gouthro kept sliding and has since been spotted all over the province sliding down icy roads on his way to the Weatherbee “I’ve been burned support group.
Nathan Bessey looked inspired in the second period as he made a Ryder like move for a backhand goal. Tyler Selvet took a nice pass from Adam Jarvis behind the net for a goal before Matt Ryder finished off the hatty on a bang bang play in front. Jeff Snow would get a little bit of something to feel good about for the Greyhounds as he backhanded a shot past Baird with 7 minutes left.
As the clock moved to running time, Rowan Ayers had a chance in the slot, but Rock Hands Rowan couldn't convert. The teams settled into a waiting pattern and the game ended with a 7-2 Aurora win, good for a tie with the Lions for second place, and a game still in hand.
