The Falcons celebrate a goal

A summary of the week

We had 3 games last week and with many teams playing their last regular season games, there was a lot at stake.

The Falcons and Highlanders were up first and the game started off with a goal just 21 seconds in as the Falcons took the lead.  They would not relinquish it en route to a 7-2 victory.  The Falcons win gives them a chance at first place.

In the victory, Jory Uhlman scored twice and added 3 assists for a 5 point night, giving him 23 on the season, within striking distance of the league lead, but an uphill battle.  Dustin Hall added 3 assists to give him the assist lead over Mike Chassie of the Starrs, and Josh Flemming scored twice for 6 on the season.

The Highlanders had goals from Chris Ryder and Kyle Gouthro.

The Starrs and Wolverines were getting underway on another rink as the Falcons and Highlanders were nearing the end of their contest, and it was all going the Starrs way.  Much like the other game, a goal was scored 40 seconds in by Kenzie Wadden, his first of two on the night, his other would come later and be a great top shelf snipe.

It wasn’t the most fun night for the Wolverines who have struggled to win at times but have usually been in the mix in their games.  Starrs forward Pat Oxner scored once and had 3 assists in a 4 point night which brought his rookie season total 13 goals and 8 assists for 21 points.  Kurt Sampson had a 2 point night including his first of the season with his shot through the 5 hole of Ashton Speight.

The Wolverines wouldn’t go away empty handed as they ruined the shutout for Blake Isenor who was filling in for Phil Sprague.  Josh Stevens was the one who scored, and it wasn’t his 4th of the season.  He and the rest of the Wolverines will be looking to put the 7-1 loss behind them as they play their final game of the regular season vs the Sable on Monday night.

The Starrs sit behind the Falcons in third place but that would depend on the result of the Astros game vs the Voyaguers on the other rink.

Most expected this to be an easy win for the Astros, but the Voyageurs have been a team to surprise at times.  Bo Lowery and Cobee MacNaughton scored in quick succession midway through the first period and the Astros were on their heels, down by two goals after the first.

The second period saw another 2 for the Voyageurs before the Astros broke Andrew Lowery’s shutout with just 3:41 remaining.  Derick Levesque clapped a bomb home to get it back in the finals 2 minutes and the Voyageurs stunned the Astros 5-1 in the final game for both teams.

The Astros loss allows the Starrs to remain in 3rd place.  The Voyaguers confirmed their position in 5th, meaning this these two teams will meet in the first round of the playoffs on the 18th, an interesting matchup as the middle matchup always is.

Entering the final games of the season on Monday night, the Falcons are seeking first place while the teams in positions 6-8 are jockeying for position with plenty of movement available.  We won’t know the matchups for the playoffs until the final whistle blows on the regular season, a game which happens to be the only 10:30 game of the season.

Lots of excitement awaits!
