Astros Blast Off

2025-08-19

Zack Harrison with a big celly

The Astros were the only team to have a dominant game so far in these 2025 Summer Playoffs

Our final game of the first round (night) was the Astros vs Voyageurs.  The Voyageurs stunned the Astros with a win in their final game before the playoffs and were looking to repeat that.  The Astros had a full lineup and no desire to see that happen again.

After three exhilarating games on Monday night, this 4th game just didn’t have it, it wasn’t full of excitement like the others, but it was still a good game.  The first 5 minutes though, booooring.

Then Landon Miron tried to deke through 5 Voyaguers, and he failed, but he did draw a penalty.  The Astros finally started to come together on the PP.  with both Ross brothers in the lineup, the Voyaguers felt like this one guy was all over them. It’s because it was two guys, and Sam was in the right place to take a rebound and tuck it in last Andrew Lowery on the backhand.  Assists to Ben Ross. And Norm Gallant-Ross.  With 9:53 left in the first, the Voyageurs were down 1-0 and struggling to get Jared Worth to look uncomfortable in the Astros goal.  Then again, Worth never looks uncomfortable.

Sam Ross made a nice feed to Darren Ells in the slot a few minutes later but he couldn’t find the back of the net.  Then Zack Harrison found a couple nice bounces and with Andrew Lowery sliding to his right, he got his blocker up to deny Zack.

Brent Moulins, having never taken a slapshot in Nomad, ripped a bomb top shelf to make it 2-0 for the Astros with 2:47 in the first as the Astros controlled the game and now the scoreboard.

Shannon Farrell had an amazing chance with 2 left as she received a back door pass but just couldn’t corral it to get at the empty net.

The second period was the same as the first with the Astros dominating.  Norm Gallant made a big block on a Derick Levesque shot which got the Astro bench riled up.  Though a couple minutes later he almost had one go in off his leg, but it slowly slide just barely wide of the net as the Voyageurs had a little bit of pressure.  Worth had to bat a puck out of the air with his blocker that nearly dropped in.

On the Penalty Kill, Landon Miron was picking cherries and got himself a clear cut breakaway.  He deked so hard that the puck went to the corner.  Lucky for him. It wouldn’t matter as the Voyageurs would get a few decent chances including 2 slot shots that Worth had to deny from Marshall and MacNaughton, but then Landon would get a rebound goal, and Harrison would go short side shelf off a pass from Alex Murphy to put the nail in the coffin.  All that was left to play for was the shutout at this point, but they fucked it up.  Cobee MacNaughton ruined that with 23.1 seconds left, but his season would come to an end as the Astros took the 4-1 win and a spot in round 2 vs the Starrs at 10pm on Wednesday night.
