Keith Webb clears the Lions zone
The Lions and Tigers played a close game.
The Wild Cat battle was playing on rink C while the Osprey and Aurora fought it out on rink B. The Tigers and Lions were both searching for their second win.
Keith Webb, fresh off a weekend where he got married, and now looking to relive the long past glory days of his youth, had the first chance for the Lions. He stole a puck and shot to the blocker side, but Josh McCarther denied him.
Iain Duncan just missed the far corner of the net with a low shot on an early Lions power play. There weren’t many great chances until Dustin Hall gifted a puck to Dan Keays who couldn’t best Trevor Pate, then Brandon Crowell was denied by him on a 2 on 1.
Jarrett Carter and Iain Duncan were working some magic with their passing, nut McCarther wasn’t letting anything by him. He had a little help from Eric Blanchard who batted a puck out of the air near the goal line after a scramble in front.
The Lions were vastly outshooting the Tigers, but the score was at zeroes until Brandon Crowell cracked the code. Taking a feed from Kurt Thibault, Crowell had time and space and his shot was well placed over the pad and under the glove of a pate to make it 1-0 Tigers. On the next play, the Lions had a good chance when Hall found Jamie Richard in front and his shot just missed the net as he shot back across the grain.
With the pressure mounting, the Lions were confident they could make something happen. Their shot lead was 15-5 and finally, Jarrett Carter levelled the score. He got the puck from Stephen Warwick off the rush and he one timed a shot into the back of the net.
At 1-1 we entered the second period, the Lions leading in the shots department but seeking a lead on the scoreboard. It would take just over 4 minutes, but they would find that lead at 4 on 4. Dustin Hall put the puck off the post on a breakaway but would follow the play around and then he fed a pass to Jamie Richard who found himself with a good amount of time and he picked his spot, shooting around Norm Gallant and beating the blocker of McCarther to make it 2-1 Lions with 12:51 still to play.
The Tigers responded quickly. A minute after giving up the lead, Kurt Thibault took a shot that went off the mask of Pate but went unnoticed, and Brandon Crowell buried the rebound. Pate would have damage from the shot that would need fixing post game.
Ok, so a good number of chances happens both directions as the last 11 minutes were played, but I’ll cut to the chase, this game would require a shootout. The Lions went first.
