Matt Simpson dekes around Logan MacLean

Osprey vs Greyhounds

Coming off a huge 3-0 victory where Logan MacLean stood on his head to lead the Greyhounds to victory, the guys in grey were feeling good and expecting a big effort vs the Osprey Thursday night.

The Osprey however, got off to an early start when Mike Bourgeois kept a puck in at the line and shot it on goal.  Nick Collins redirected the shot past Logan MacLean to make it 1-0 Osprey at 15:15.  The Osprey brought their A game and at 13:42, after Bourgeois shot a puck on net again, Connor LeBlanc tried to clear it, but it went off a teammate’s leg and right to Josh Stevens who spun and fired a shot past the blocker of Logan to make it 2-0 early.

It was an ugly one that got the Greyhounds on the board as Brock Bethune shovelled a soft pass to the front of the net and Matt Baird woke up from his nap as it went off his stick blade and through his open legs.

Matt Simpson setup Rohan Dempsey from behind the net to restore the 2 goal Osprey lead, but again the Greyhounds found a way to reply, and it came at the expense of a Josh Martel sitting in the box.  He had barely sat down when Kris LeBlanc scrambled the draw and Trevor Clarke came in to collect the puck and pass to Kyle Ervin at the point.  Erv stepped in and took a wrist shot that went by the outstretched glove of Baird and the crowd went wild.

Kris LeBlanc tipped the next shot on goal and Baird made a brilliant save as he kicked his leg out and got his stick on the puck atop his pad and collected the falling puck before Trevor Clarke could bang in the rebound.  This was the TSN turning point.  The momentum would shift in the Osprey favour as the spent just about the rest of the period in the Greyhounds zone.  Nick Collins would add a second goal of the game off a rebound, and Matt Simpson would get an assist from Mat McLeod and then deked out Logan to make it 5-2, but Mat McLeod would find redemption with a solo effort and a shot five hole with 22 seconds left in the first.

Despite making a ton of saves, Logan MacLean was not destined to be on the winning end on this night as the Osprey pressure was just too much for the Greyhounds, who were giving away too many pucks in their own end.  The Osprey would add 2 goals in the second, 3 if you count the Greg Delano shot that Travis Hatcher had go off his foot an in.  The final score was 7-3 Osprey as they sit atop the standings.
