Greyhounds try not to take one on the chin

Connor MacPherson goes flying
Greyhounds vs Evergreens, again.
The Greyhounds were playing the second game of a back to back, while the Evergreens were playing their second game in a row vs the Greyhounds, in what sounds like an elementary school logic problem. In their previous meeting, things got a little heated, and there were some guys coming close to suspensions as the game ended in animosity. Thankfully that didn’t carry over into their second matchup.
After a high scoring affair, this one was going the way of the goalies for some time as neither the Evergreens nor the Greyhounds could capitalize on their chances. Of which the Greyhounds were getting more. It would take a power play opportunity to get the first goal in the board, and it came off a redirection by Drew LeFrank at 4:12 of the first.
Pressure kept mounting in the Evergreens zone, and over a span of 50 seconds, the Greyhounds popped in 3 goals; Brock Bethune with a clear line to the net made a nice deke, then Connor MacPherson had an open net on a rebound that was passed to him, and Greg Delano threw in a slot shot. In their own end, the Greyhounds’ Connor LeBlanc made a successful sliding shot block, but the puck hit him in the armpit and winded him. He would remain in the game.
Just over 4 minutes into the second, the Dogs went up 5-0 as Bryan Gillis scored his 4th of the season. The game was out of reach, but the Evergreens were fighting. Callum MacKinnon took a rebound off his visor and that puck went straight into the net to break the shutout, then he got a second in the final minute, but the hopes of an Evergreens winning streak were dashed, the Greyhounds pulling off the 5-2 victory.
The Evergreens will be back at it on Friday, while the Greyhounds will next see the ice after our week off.
